Junk in the Drive-Thru:Hustle Culture, Quick Fixes, Busyness, Rest, and God’s Timing | Joy in the Junk Podcast
We live in a world of spinny wheels, 25 open tabs, drive-thru expectations, and instant results—and if something takes longer than 8 minutes and 16 seconds, we’re already frustrated. Sound familiar? Bless it.
In this episode of Joy in the Junk, we’re talking about “Junk in the Drive-Thru”—the pressure to move fast, fix everything quickly, and stay constantly productive… and how that mindset sneaks its way straight into our faith.
From frozen apps and slammed phones to overflowing calendars and hustle mentality, this conversation is a holy gut-check wrapped in laughter, honesty, and a whole lot of “oh Lord, that’s me.”
We dig into:
• Why we’re addicted to quick fixes and instant results
• Hustle culture and the lie that rest is lazy
• Feeling guilty for slowing down—or doing “nothing”
• Living with too many tabs open (physically, mentally, spiritually)
• Why busyness shuts us down instead of moving us forward
• Being intentional with our yeses (and learning when to say no)
• Wanting to be the fixer, the doer, the dependable one
• Stretching ourselves so thin that no one gets our best
We talk real life:
• Different seasons of motherhood, work, retirement, and caregiving
• Migraines, mental health, and feeling guilty for resting
• Growing older and learning to slow down without shame
• Leaving dishes in the sink and cups on the counter (growth, y’all)
• The pressure to always “prove” we did something with our day
And then we bring it back to truth:
• God is not a drive-thru order
• Growth takes time
• Rest is biblical—and commanded
• Sabbath isn’t a suggestion
• Productivity does not equal worth
• God meets us on the go, but He also calls us to stop
• Stillness doesn’t always mean physical stillness—it means spiritual intention
We unpack Scripture including:
• Psalm 46:10 – “Be still and know that I am God”
• The story of Mary and Martha—choosing what is better, not just what’s busy
• Biblical priorities: God first, marriage second, children third
• The danger of letting responsibilities replace priorities
We ask the hard questions:
Are we more focused on changing our circumstances than letting God change our hearts?
Are we choosing what’s easy—or what’s better?
Are we giving God our leftovers or our best?
This episode is for:
• The woman who’s tired but feels guilty resting
• The fixer who doesn’t know how to sit in hard things
• The perfectionist who hates doing things twice
• The doer who feels needed but worn out
• The believer who grabs God “on the go” but longs for deeper stillness
Because faith isn’t fast food.
Healing isn’t instant.
And God’s best work rarely happens in a rush.
So slow down, close a few tabs, pull into that waiting space (even if it frustrates you), and join us for a conversation that reminds us that God’s timing is always better than a quick fix.
Less hustle. More Him.
Less junk. More joy.
